Q&A with
Dervala Leahy,
our Head of ESG
“As providers of healthcare services to many
companies in the pharmaceutical industry,
we understand the role we can play, together
with our clients, to achieve Net Zero.”
Dervala Leahy,
Head of ESG
A year into Inizio’s
Sustainability Strategy,
howare things going?
We’ve made significant progress in
the last 12 months across the three
pillars of Environmental, Social, and
Governance. Under Environmental,
we’ve received validation of our
near-term science-based targets
following a detailed review by the
SBTi. These targets pave the way
forInizio to move forward, at pace,
with our decarbonization plans.
The Social pillar has also moved
forward significantly since the
appointment of our Global Head of
DEI and the development of our DEI
mission andvision statements and
our DEI Strategy. Under Governance,
we’ve made considerable progress
indeveloping the policy framework
weneed to support our new
organizational structure.
At the end of 2023, we took the
opportunity to assess our progress
andupdate our Sustainability Strategy
to reflect changes in the regulatory
environment, tighten up on some of
our earlier commitments, and to focus
on where Inizio can create the greatest
impact. These changes are detailed
within the strategy section of this
report on page 9.
How are employees
contributing to Inizio’s
Sustainability Strategy?
Our employees’ support is essential
toachieving our strategic objectives
across our three pillars. Throughout
the year, we ran various initiatives
aimed at engaging our employees
onimportant issues such as energy
consumption, mental health,and
diversity, equity, and inclusion. In
November 2023, we alsolaunched an
e-learning module on environmental
sustainability aimed at raising
awareness and inspiring change.
Aspart of this, weasked employees
to make an environmental sustainability
pledge for the next 12 months. More
than 3,100 pledges were made and
over 70% of our employees
completedthe module.
As we look to the various ESG
regulations that Inizio will soon
berequired to report against,
thesupport of colleagues in other
functions will be vital for delivering
robust and accurate ESG reporting.
What have been some
ofthebiggest drivers of
change impacting Inizio’s
sustainability efforts over
the past year?
The pharmaceutical industry
isaccelerating efforts to reach
NetZero by 2040 or earlier and
weunderstand the importance
ofpartnering with clients to
collectively achieve that goal.
Creating a sustainable organization
is also hugely important for our
employees and potential recruits,
which is why we continue to actively
involve our people in all stages of
our sustainability journey.
What are Inizio’s
sustainability priorities
for2024?
From an environmental standpoint,
our biggest challenge continues
tobe quantifying and reducing
ourScope 3 emissions. Throughout
2024, we’ll focus our engagement
program on our highest spend
suppliers first, which we’ll then
lookto evolve in the years ahead.
Employee data remains key to
thesocial pillar. We’re working
withstakeholders across HR,
Legal,and IT to advance this,
sowe’llbe in a better position to
measure our progress in the future.
In 2024, we’ll also complete our
firstdouble materiality analysis to
inform and validate our Sustainability
Strategy. This will lay the foundations
for reporting against the Corporate
Sustainability Reporting Directive
Disclosure (CSRD) and the International
Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS)
Sustainability Standards.
